The Resurrection Act
Artist Jaye Ho unveils "The Resurrection Act" at Electro Studios Project Space in February 2024, expanding on her series, "The Vanishing Act." This exhibition delves into the pursuit of justice for survivors of wartime atrocities. The series, featuring paintings like "Minova" inspired by the 2012 Congo village attack, captures historical depth. Rooted in her family's WW2 experiences, Jaye's art confronts ongoing challenges of seeking accountability for conflict-related sexual violence.

The Vanishing Act
6 Oct - 22 Nov 2020
ONCA, 14 St George’s Place, Brighton, BN1 4GB, UK
’The Vanishing Act’ is a powerful body of work that addresses war crimes, focusing on the plight of ‘Comfort Women’ in Japanese-occupied WW2 countries and sexual violence survivors seeking justice. I paint victims and their remains, survivors and perpetrators. I censor/protect/condemn these images with a mask of prisms, geometric shapes or pixels.
“Living in a peaceful and stable country is a huge privilege, because my aunts had to mask their gender in order to survive the WW2 occupation of Malaysia. Tragically, sexual violence in conflict continues to this day, and, sadly, many survivors are not seeing justice done.”
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the gallery was not open to the public. Instead, a selection of my paintings were exhibited in a two-part exhibition on display in the window of the ONCA gallery, and all of my works were displayed in an online exhibition, archived here.
